According to Shariah teachings, the obligation of a parent to a child begins before marriage is to choose a mate. Everyone has a responsibility to choose a suitable parent for his or her future child.

It was narrated from Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her):

The Messenger of Allah (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Choose the best for your sperm, and marry compatible women and propose marriage to them.

The Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace0) addresses future parents and instructs their future children to choose a suitable father and mother. It follows that a Muslim should not only think about his own benefits when marrying, but also thinks about his future child and chooses a suitable parent. Everyone should think about a child that comes from his or her spouse. This is because the attributes and characteristics of the parents are inherited to the child by heredity. That is why the one has to choose for the child a spiritual and physical mature parent. Let the child be proud with all the mature qualities of his father and mother when becomes conscious.
